ASAM Level 0.5 – Early Intervention
Education, Prevention & Early Support Compatior Counseling Center provides ASAM Level 0.5 Early Intervention Services for youth who may be beginning to experiment with alcohol or drugs, have experienced substance-related concerns, or are considered at risk for developing a substance use disorder. What Does Level 0.5 Mean for Parents? Level 0.5 is an early intervention level of care. It is designed to address concerns before substance use becomes more serious. Youth receive age-appropriate education and support to help them understand the risks of alcohol and drug use and make healthier choices. Services may include individual sessions, group education, substance use prevention and education, decision-making skills, coping skills, healthy relationships, family involvement, and care coordination based on the youth's individual needs. Care Coordination & Additional Support Compatior works with youth and their families to identify additional services that may be helpful, including mental health services, medical care, school and community resources, and family support. If an assessment shows that a youth needs more intensive substance use disorder treatment, our team can help coordinate a referral to an appropriate higher level of care. The goal is early support—not labeling a young person. Level 0.5 helps youth build knowledge, confidence, healthy coping skills, and positive decision-making skills that can reduce the risk of future substance-related problems.
Program Highlights
ASAM Level 0.5 services are designed to catch concerns early and give youth and families the tools to prevent substance use from becoming a larger problem.
Confidential screening helps identify risky substance use patterns early, before they develop into a substance use disorder.
Age-appropriate education and short, focused sessions build awareness of substance use risks and encourage healthier choices.
Parents and caregivers get practical guidance on communication, boundaries, and supporting their young person at home.
When more support is needed, we connect youth and families to the right services, including higher levels of care when appropriate.
What Is ASAM Level 0.5?Early Intervention services are for youth and young adults who do not yet meet criteria for a substance use disorder but may be at risk for developing one. This level of care focuses on prevention and early action — screening, education, brief intervention, and referral — so concerns are addressed before more intensive treatment is needed.
Who Is This Program For?Youth Early Intervention may be a good fit for teens and young adults who are experimenting with substances, have a family history of addiction, are showing early warning signs, or have been referred by a school, physician, or family member. It also supports young people who simply want to learn more about substance use and how to make safer choices.
Services May IncludeConfidential screening and assessment, substance use education, brief individual and group counseling, motivational interviewing, coping and refusal skills, family education and support, and referral and care coordination to higher levels of care when appropriate. Every service is delivered in a developmentally appropriate, nonjudgmental way and tailored to each young person’s needs.
Why Early Intervention MattersAddressing substance use concerns early can prevent them from progressing and help young people build the awareness, skills, and support networks they need to stay healthy. Family involvement is an important part of that process, and caregivers are encouraged to take part with consent and in a way that respects the young person’s privacy and dignity.
