Youth & Teen Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Treatment
Compatior Counseling Center provides developmentally appropriate outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment for youth and young adults. Our youth programs are designed to meet adolescents where they are — providing individualized, person-centered care while keeping them connected to school, family, and community life.
Level 1.0 – Outpatient ServicesFlexible treatment that fits around school and family responsibilities.
ASAM Level 1.0 Outpatient Services are appropriate for youth who need structured SUD treatment but can maintain stability while living at home and attending school. Treatment focuses on helping young people understand substance use patterns, build healthy coping skills, resist peer pressure, strengthen supportive relationships, and work toward goals they define for themselves.
Services may include individual counseling and group counseling, substance use education, motivational interviewing, cognitive and behavioral interventions, relapse-prevention planning, coping and emotional-regulation skills, identification of triggers and high-risk situations, recovery planning, development of healthy relationships and support systems, and family education and support when appropriate.
Youth may also receive case management and care coordination to address barriers that can interfere with treatment and recovery, including school engagement, mental health services, healthcare, transportation, family needs, and connections to community resources.
How Is the Level of Care Determined? – ASAM CriteriaPlacement in the appropriate level of care is determined through an individualized assessment using The ASAM Criteria.
ASAM stands for the American Society of Addiction Medicine. The ASAM Criteria provide a standardized framework used by addiction treatment professionals to evaluate a young person's needs and determine the appropriate intensity and setting of SUD treatment.
Rather than determining treatment solely by the substance a youth uses or how frequently they use it, the ASAM assessment considers the whole person. Clinicians evaluate areas such as intoxication and withdrawal needs, physical health, mental health and cognitive needs, substance-use-related risks, readiness and recovery needs, and the youth's recovery environment — including family, school, and available supports.
Family InvolvementRecovery works best when families are part of the plan.
Youth recovery is most successful when caregivers are engaged. Compatior offers family education and support, helping parents and guardians understand substance use, communication, boundary-setting, and the ways they can reinforce progress at home. Family participation is encouraged throughout treatment, with consent and in a way that respects the young person's privacy and dignity.
Care Coordination & Case ManagementConnecting youth to the support they need.
Youth Care Coordination Services
Care coordination is an important part of youth outpatient treatment and helps connect youth and their families with additional healthcare, behavioral health, and supportive services that may be necessary for successful treatment and recovery.
Care coordination may include assistance with primary and specialty healthcare, mental health and behavioral health services, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate, medication and pharmacy coordination, school-related resources, family support services, and other community-based services.
When a youth’s needs exceed what can safely or effectively be addressed through Level 1.0 outpatient treatment, care coordination can also include referrals and linkage to a higher level of care, including Intensive Outpatient Services, residential substance use disorder treatment, withdrawal management, mental health treatment, or other clinically appropriate services.
Care coordinators may assist youth and their parent, guardian, or caregiver, as appropriate, with identifying providers, making referrals, coordinating appointments, communicating with authorized outside providers, following up on referrals, obtaining necessary documentation, and navigating healthcare and community systems.
The goal is to ensure that each youth receives the right services at the right level of care while supporting continued engagement in treatment, healthy development, family stability, and long-term recovery.
